Birr Stage Guild Presents

By Bernard Farrell

Thursday 12 – Saturday 14 November

‘Hugely funny, wickedly observed and subversively malicious along the way. A sure fire winner, Bernard Farrell is better than ever’….Sunday Independent.

A sharp and hilarious examination of contemporary Ireland as mirrored in the popular phenomenon of the Book Club! It’s Ann’s turn to host the evening and a decision has been taken to allow husbands to be part of this ‘last bastion of female exclusivity’. The resulting clash not only exposes hidden lives, deceptions and indiscretions, but highlights social and financial misadventures that had long been swept under the carpet.

Bernard Farrell’s first play I Do Not Like Thee Doctor Fell premiered at the Abbey Theatre in 1979. Numerous others followed, including Canaries, The Last Apache Reunion, Stella By Starlight, to name but a few. Birr Stage Guild’s previous staging of his plays include Happy Birthday Dear Alice in 2002, and Kevin’s Bed in 2012. This production draws together an experienced cast who provide a fantastic night of comedy, under the direction of Anne Clarke.
